Due to time conflicts, the fellowship scheduled for tonight at 7:00 has been rescheduled for next Sunday at 7:00. If you are signed up for a LifeGroup, don’t miss this opportunity to meet your lifegroup leader and others in your group. See you next week.
If you’re like me, this video exposes you to the core. Wow! Lord, help us to see the gospel more clearly and to live out of a sense of joy and delight, not duty.
Don’t forget about the book study starting this tuesday. Melanie and Logan are pumped about walking through Crazy Love and unpacking the truths in this book by Francis Chan. So if you’re interested in joining, come to Melanie’s house this Tuesday at 4:45. You’ll get a free copy of the book when you come.
For those of you looking for ways to give money to Help Haiti, here are my suggestions:
1. Buy a Help Haiti shirt from Aaron Ivey. He’s the worship leader at The Austin Stone Community Church and has adopted two Haitian children, Story and Amos. His journey of getting Amos is incredible. He and his wife have been trying to secure a visa for Amos for over two years to get him into the U.S. to no avail, but because of the earthquake Amos is now with Aaron and the family. God works in mysterious ways! Anyway, Aaron is selling shirts to help support relief efforts. The shirts are cool and its a trustworthy channel of giving. All proceeds are funneled to either Real Hope For Haiti or Heartline. To buy a shirt and give, follow thislink.
2. Give to Churches Helping Churches, an organization started by Mark Driscoll and James MacDonald. These two guys were some of the first people to actually get into Port Au Prince and to document the devastation. Their desire is to give directly to like-minded and like-hearted churches in Haiti, to enable local churches and Christians to extend Christ’s love to people in need. Giving to this organization is a partnership in gospel advancement. If you would like to see some of the video they shot, how to give to this organization, and what you are giving to, check out their website.
3. Buy a Haiti’s Song CD for $10. The worship leader at 24church, Nathan Loxley, wrote this song in response to the tragedy in Haiti, and 24church is selling the song to raise money for relief efforts. All proceeds go to either Compassion, Living Water, or Churches Helping Churches. To buy the song, go here.
What’s up friends? I’m getting really excited about thursday night gatherings starting back soon! We are kicking off the new semester with a study in the book of Hebrews. I’m pumped about going through this text together! I hope everyone is able to join us on the 21st to fellowship and worship with us. We will also have lots of info on what’s going to be happening in the coming weeks and ways that you can plug in, so come!!
Passion 2010 was incredible! 21000+ college students and young adults gathered together in downtown Atlanta to worship God and to celebrate His glorious grace. We sat under gifted teachers and worshipped with talented worship leaders who led us to the throne of grace. My personal highlight was probably getting to worship with Hillsong United on Sunday night. That was an unbelievable worship experience! I would love to hear from those who attended what your favorite moments were, or how God spoke to you through the conference. Please post your comments below. If you weren’t able to go, check out the Passion website and join us next year.
As we walk through the first 6 chapters of Daniel we’re going to be covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Inevitably, we’ll miss lots of truths in the text, so my encouragement to you is two-fold:
1. Go back and re-read the text for yourself. Study it slowly and carefully, asking the Holy Spirit to enlighten truths to you.
2. Find a good commentary or preacher who has taught through Daniel. One solid place to go is Sam Storms’ website. He has posted an exegesis of Daniel that is very helpful. Check his page out:
This Thursday we will finish our series Birds and Bees with a talk on singleness. I hope everyone is able to make it to (sola)s, but I know some of you will be headed home for fall break. If you aren’t able to make it but you would still like to listen to the talk, we will be uploading it to the website under the downloads section. The last two talks (dating and marriage) are also available to download and/or listen.
Next Thursday we embark on a new 6 week series that will take us through the first 6 chapters of Daniel. I know that all of you eschatology buffs are disappointed we’re not going to dig into the prophecy portion of the book, but we’re not…deal with it. Actually, a 6 week series gets us near the end of the semester and the narrative portion of this book has some amazing truths in it that will make for a great study. We’ve titled the series “Living in Exile,” because the book of Daniel accounts the story of a young Hebrew guy and his friends living under Babylonian rule. What is amazing is that as you study this book, you will find that in so many ways the story of Daniel parallels where we find ourselves in the 21st century. As we try to live godly lives on campus and in the community, we can look to Daniel and see how he lived godly in a secular culture.
Don’t forget to check out the DOWNLOADS page each week for (sola)s sermons.
After each (sola)s we will be posting the sermon recording on the DOWNLOADS page for the entire semester. Go ahead and download “Dating and Relationships” and “Sex and Marriage” to listen in the car while you drive home during Fall Break.
Passion 2010 is going to be amazing. Please don’t miss this opportunity to gather with college students from all over the nation (and even the world) to declare the greatness of our God. I am a firm believer in what God is doing through this movement, and I want you guys to experience this opportunity. You can sign up by leaving a comment on this blog, by emailing us, or by signing up on this Thursday or Sunday. A $50 deposit is due by the end of September.
