Since last Thursday night, a lot of people have been asking me about the Khampa people group. As a result, I would like to share with you some of the information that I have found concerning these people.

The first thing that you need to know about this people group is that they are the epitome of “unreached.” There are just under 250,000 of the Khampa in central Tibet and according to the Joshua Project, they are 0.01% Christian. If you calculate those numbers, you will find that out of just under 250,000 people, 200 of them claim to be Christian. Assuming that those 200 really do understand the gospel of grace through faith, approximately 248,800 Khampa are destined to an eternal hell.

Consequently, these people desperately need gospel workers. However, this task is not going to be easy. These people are renowned for their sorcery. Many monks in their religion are able to conjure physical manifestations of demons in front of them. It is recorded that some of the “strongest” monks have been able to appear in different wide-spread locations in the same day, meaning that they have been able to teleport themselves from one area to another. The Khampa worship Yoma, the Buddhist “god of death”, believing that he is the ruler of the underworld, so it is no surprise that they have these supernatural manifestations.

Additionally, they live at 17,000 feet above sea level therefore an American would have to be extremely careful if they were to attempt to minister to them because of the change of oxygen levels that they would encounter. Not only that, these people are known for being militant to anyone who tries to approach their settlements.

One of the biggest hinderances to the gospel in the context on unreached peoples are language barriers. Probably the most encouraging attribute of the Khampa is that they only have two dialects. So if one were able to get into Tibet (which is illegal), hike 17,000 feet above sea level, through some of the most treacherous mountains in the world, have confidence to deal authoritatively with demon manifestations and be accepted by the community, it would be relatively easy to communicate with them on a large scale.

This seems like an impossible task. However, as we have said before, Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth and if He wills for you to reach the Khampa, no government, or geography, or atmosphere, or elemental spirits, or language barrier will thwart His plan!

Soli Deo Gloria!

Hey folks, we are excited to announce that LifeGroups are kicking off tonight! These groups are intended to help us grow and persevere in our faith. Not only do we desire fellowship with Christ with one another, but we are reminded in Hebrews to not neglect meeting together. This type of community- centered on Jesus and led by the Spirit- is meant for our endurance and joy. We are anticipating a fruitful time of growth as we pursue the Lord through what He has ordained for us. So, we hope you’re excited with us as this time in our lives begins.

Below, we have a link for the LifeGroup lists, their addresses, and contact info. It’s also never too late to join!

Hey folks,

We hope everyone is having a great summer. It’s hard to believe that it is almost July! We’re excited, though, about what God is doing in every single one of you over the break, and ready to hear those stories when everyone returns for the Fall.

So, we’re getting ready for week 5 of our summer Bible study! As we have gone through Vintage Jesus, Mark Driscoll has taught us about who Jesus was, why he came to earth, and how unique was his coming. It has been very refreshing to break apart all the different views the world has of him and to see him for who he is. We’ve also had some great hosts this summer, and it just seems to be getting better.

This week we’ll be going to Jesse and Rhonda Torres’ house for week #5 of Vintage Jesus. They’ll graciously be feeding us as well, so be sure to come hungry. Plan to be there around 6 to eat, and the study will probably start around 6:30 or 6:45. (We also have a special place for late-comers!)

An address with directions will be posted below along with a map to help you get there. We hope to see you there!

This week at (sola)s we unpacked Romans 12:1-13. Last week we examined the first two verses of chapter 12, exploring the idea of what it means to be a “living sacrifice”. This week we continued in this vein, asking the question, “What does a living sacrifice look like?” What are the marks of a life that has been transformed? From verses 3-13 we saw 7 marks of a transformed life: 1) humility, 2) unity, 3) purpose, 4) love, 5) fervency, 6) endurance, and 7) generosity. We finished by seeing that these fruits grow from renewing our minds daily in the gospel. Jesus was the one who enabled us to bear these fruits, and he set a perfect example of every one of these marks. We will be humble, united, purposeful, loving, fervent, enduring, and generous as we look to Jesus and the gospel.

In Romans 9, Paul seeks to answer questions that naturally arise after spending 8 chapters declaring that salvation is obtained by faith apart from works of the law for all who will believe – including Gentiles. The natural questions that follow are: What about God’s covenant with the Jews? What about all of the promises of the Old Covenant? How is it that Jews can miss out on salvation and Gentiles be included? The way Paul answers these questions is humbling, not only for Jews, but for all of us. His answers reveal that God is perfectly and absolutely sovereign and just over all things – including his promises, his plans, his mercy, and his judgment.

In Romans 2, Paul moves from addressing the universal condition of humanity to confronting the Jewish and religious readers of his letter with a sober warning that they are included in the fallenness of mankind. The second chapter of Romans reveals the serious danger of growing up in church and being religious. In this message we see three such dangers:

1) a tendency toward judgmental hypocrisy,

2) living in unrepentant presumption, and

3) having an arrogant self-assessment.

We finished by seeing the blessing of growing up in church, namely, that those who grow up in church have been granted access to the truth (the law), which points us to our need for a Savior.
