There have been few times in my life that I have been challenged and pressed more than what I just experienced at the Gospel Coalition.  I just got back from Chicago and I’m still trying to process, pray and work through the Word I received.  From idols being exposed, to my fear and cowardice in sharing the gospel, to my repaying evil with evil instead of repaying it with good, to my lack of pursuit to know God – I have been laid bare.  I am a weak.  I am a sinful.  And yet, there is a deep – though painful – joy in seeing all of this.  It is here that I also see the greatness of God’s mercy toward me in Christ, and here that I am reminded that God is not finished with me, and it is here that I heed Paul’s warning to press on toward the goal.  I invite you to be exposed by listening to these messages; it’s a painful joy that you need to know.

This Saturday, April 18th, we are having a crawfish boil on the campus of USM.  This is the day of the annual Southern Miss spring football game, and in addition the baseball team is playing UAB in a weekend series.  This is a perfect opportunity to meet college students, so we thought, what better way to do so than give ‘em some free crawfish!  Everyone’s invited to come and join us on the lawn of Pride Field from 3:30-5:30.  (Bring some napkins!)

In Baptist circles we hear clichéd statements like, “Once saved always saved.” all the time.  But are statements like these really helpful?  Or perhaps it is better asked, “Is this notion even Biblical?”  In a recent SBTS chapel sermon, Dr. Hershael York addresses the issue of eternal security and what are the proper and improper approaches to it.  This sermon is an amazing help if you’re wondering how you should think through the notion of believer’s assurance and the concept of eternal security.  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this issue and/or your response to Dr. York’s sermon.
