Hey friends,
This Thursday we are meeting at the Refuge for our last summer gathering. We are going to order Fox’s pizza, so everyone bring $3 to pitch in. We’ll cover the drinks.
We’re also going to be playing games, so please feel free to bring your favorite board game, card game, or if you own a Wii you can bring that too!
Here are a few things happening within the next month:
- 6/18/2009 – summer bible study @the pfaffs house, 7pm (see the post below for directions). If you are following along in the book, read chapter 5.
- 6/26/2009 – lighthouse work day. Whoever is interested is invited to go with us downtown to lighthouse ministries to do some manual labor. If you’d like to be a part, email me (aadkison@tbclife.net). We’re meeting in the temple east campus parking lot at 8:45 on the 26th.
- 7/10-16/2009 – missions hattiesburg. The student ministry is doing a local service/missions project this week and they have invited us to be a part of what they’re doing. Interested? email me (see above). The cost to be a part of this is $60, which includes your food for the week and supplies for the work you’ll be doing. If you need help with the cost, let me know and we can work something out.
This thursday we’re kicking off our summer gatherings and our study of C.J. Mahaney’s book, Living the Cross-Centered Life. I’m stoked about going through this book – it’s going to be a great encouragement and help in our attempt to live out the gospel everyday. If you’re free on Thursday nights, join us for some fellowship and discussion. And if that’s not enough to hook you, the Carley’s are hosting us this week and they’ve offered to feed us. So be at their house promptly at 6:30, or the food might disappear quick! (For directions to their house, follow this link).
Just a reminder, there will be no (sola)s gathering on March 19th. We will resume on March 26th with our series Contend for the Faith. This series is all about answering some major questions that pertain to Christianity, so that we will think through why we believe what we believe and be able to give a defense for the hope that is in us. If you have questions, you are invited to come join us next Thursday at 7 p.m. The first question we’ll be addressing is how we can trust and believe that Scripture is the inspired word of God. Hope to see everyone there.
Starting this Thursday, (sola)s gatherings will be in the Activities Center. The AC is located on the same premises as the East Campus in the corner of the parking lot. I hope everyone makes it to (sola)s this week as we take a look at the idea of the cross being our means of forgiveness and righteousness.
This Thursday we will start back with (sola)s – 7 p.m. at the east campus. To kick of the year we will spend a few weeks looking at the cross of Christ. What was really accomplished by Jesus’ death? Was the cross the only possible way? How does understanding the cross help us in everyday life? We will deal with these and other questions as we examine the atonement. This should be an awesome time of worship and encouragement as we focus on the gospel.

Death by Love, by Mark Driscoll – This book is awesome! I’m in the middle of reading it right now.
The Cross of Christ, by John Stott – This is a very helpful and good book on what Jesus’ death on the cross accomplished.

We are not going to meet for (sola)s tonight due to the inclement weather. You should sit at home, drink coffee and read a good book. By the way, we are taking a break for the holidays, so our next meeting together will be January 8th. I hope everyone has a great Christmas break and eats lots of holiday goodies.
